Injectable Treatments Available At Prescription Skin Scare

  • What they do

  • how we are using these treatments differently in comparison to 10 years ago ie: recent advances

Injectable treatments can be divided into 2 categories

  1. Dermal Fillers
  2. Botox

1.0 What is a Dermal Filler?

In a nutshell, a dermal filler is a product used to treat lines/wrinkles and folds and to add volume to areas such as lips

Lips, are popular recipients of fillers,……. however people are often fearful of the “trout pout” seen particularly on overseas celebrities.

Lips can be enhanced in a very subtle and natural way , whether it is to add volume or to create a more defined border (great for stopping your lipstick bleeding.)

1.1 Which Derma Fillers Do We Use?

For about 12 years, we have been using Restylane. Over the years, the Restylane family has grown.

There is a product to treat any facial line that concerns you!

Deep folds such as the nasolabial folds, fine lines such as upper lip lines or lines around the eyes and of course lips.

We now have Restylane vitale which I describe as being like an injectable moisturiser for crepey skin…great for the backs of the hands.

We use cosmoderm and cosmoplast, the new generation collagen.

And last but by no means least Juvederm… Which is very soft and natural in the skin and lips and again there are different products for different concerns.

With all of these fillers, you do not require an allergy test, and to maintain your result you will require a treatment once or twice a year.

1.2 How Are We Using Derma Fillers Differently These Days?

Over the years and with advanced training (a lot of which is done overseas) we are now treating more facial areas using new techniques which allow us to get better correction of lines and folds.

We are doing a lot more facial contouring and volumising

Examples of this are…

Redefining the jaw line, softening the tear troughs which make us look tired, adding volume to cheeks lifting and support the brow

2.0 Botox

We were one of the first clinics in NZ to use botox cosmetically. In fact, we probably were the first.

Botox relaxes wrinkle causing muscles and by doing this improves the appearance of facial lines and if started early enough, prevents those lines from becoming permanently etched.

One of the most popular areas is the frown (no one wants to look angry), but You can have many areas treated

  • Forehead
  • Eye areas

We have the circular muscle around the eye which is responsible for creating the crows feet creasing. Botox dramatically reduces crows feet, and this area is a great example of where botox works it magic in preventing lines.

  • Bunny lines

It used to be said that botox was for the upper  ½ of the face and fillers for the lower…this is no longer the case.

  • Mouth areas

And we are now treating the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down and give us that sad clown face

  • Brow shape

Botox is no longer just about wrinkle reduction. It is excellent for enhancing facial shape such as brow shape. As we age, like everything else, our brows head south.

A touch of botox under each brow gives a nice elevation and in fact even when just treating the frown you also get a great lift through the brow area.

Without a doubt,  dermal fillers and botox can effectively manage the ageing process and give you a fresher younger look.
