What is a Dermal Filler?

In a nutshell, a dermal filler is an injectable treatment used to smooth and lift out lines/wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers can be used to reduce deeper folds such as the nasolabial folds or oral commisures and finer lines. Sometimes they can be use on not so fine such as upper lip lines or lines around the eyes, those early lines that appear here before they become folds. Dermal fillers to add volume to areas such as lips.

Lip treatments are certainly not one size fits all. It is not all about making them look bigger, it is about making them look better.

Which Dermal Fillers are best?

We still use some collagen, but we now mainly use the restylane and perlane family of products and the juvederm range.

These fillers do not require an allergy test, and results last on average between 6-9months however for many they can last over a year.

One of our newer products is restylane vitale which I describe as being like an injectable moisturiser for crepey skin… or very fine lines

What about botox treatments?

Prescription Skin Care were one of the first clinics in NZ to use botox cosmetically… in fact we probably were the first.

Botox relaxes wrinkle causing muscles and by doing this improves the appearance of facial lines

If started early enough, botox actually prevents these lines from becoming permanently etched. And this is why botox has become increasingly popular with the 30’s 40’s age group.

One of the most popular areas is the frown. Now it is not that we spend all day frowning, … without realising it we activate these muscles when concentrating but no one refers to them as their “concern lines” they are frown lines and these lines make us look grumpy, angry and even tired.

Treatments for the forehead area.

Botox dramatically reduces crows feet, and this area is a great example of where botox works it magic in preventing lines.

It used to be said that botox was for the upper ½ of the face and fillers for the lower…this is no longer the case.

Botox is no longer just about wrinkle reduction. It is used to treat axillary hyperhidrosis which is a fancy way of saying excessive sweating from the armpits. People who suffer from this, love this treatment! I treated a lady just before last summer and she said she could wear silky tops and clothes that she hadn’t worn for years

Botox treatments are excellent for enhancing facial shape .. e.g. brow shape. As we age, like everything else, our brows head south. A touch of botox under each brow gives a nice elevation – the botox brow lift!

Would you believe one of the most common things I hear is “I don’t really want to look younger…just less tired or just fresher”

Having said that Botox and fillers without a doubt do give you a more youthful appearance.
