Why Lumenis LightSheer®?

Simply, the Lumenis LightSheer® provides almost pain-free treatment, treatment times are reduced by 50% – 75%, no messy clean-up from gels and no use of anaesthetics. Best of all there is no downtime for you as side effects are minimal in most circumstances.

What areas can be treated with the LightSheer?

The LightSheer can be used to remove hair from all parts of the body including sensitive areas. The benefits from reduced treatment times are most noticeable when used for large areas such as back, chest and legs.

What do the LightSheer treatments feel like?

Because treatment using the LightSheer is much quicker than other laser hair removal procedures, patient discomfort is minimal. The Lumenis LightSheer produces a beam of highly concentrated light with the light emitted being well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. As it heats up, the hair shaft and bulb are damaged which significantly impedes its ability to re-grow. And with the large spot size, the process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously, making the treatment much faster than traditional laser hair removal alternatives.

How many treatments will I need?

Although LightSheer provides for permanently hair reduction, hair removal generally requires multiple treatments as new hair grows. This is because the laser works best when hairs are in an early growth stage (referred to as anagen), and all the hairs are not in this phase at the same time. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area. As a general guide, most people require at least 5 sessions commencing about a month after the initial treatment and conducted at approximately monthly intervals, after which the treatments can be done on an ‘as needed basis’ when new growth is seen.

Possible side-effects that may happen after the treatment

All laser hair removal treatments involve heating hair follicles. The treatment area may become red and swollen for 1-3 days – it is important to realise that the swelling has not been caused by infection but as a result of the heat work applied to the treatment area. Our staff at Prescription Skin Care will provide you with a post-treatment program that will address any likely outcomes of which you should be aware.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away, but some redness may occur. You should avoid using abrasive skin cleaners or exposing the treatment area to unclean environments where there may be the opportunity to pick up an infection. You will be provided with full aftercare advice by our staff following treatment.
